A short history about Studio Solo
Established in March 2013, Studio Solo Ltd was initially established in London, but Director James Oliver relocated to the North-East of England in October 2014. Since inception, clients have included Ancestry.co.uk, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, MOO.com, BBC and UK Government Depts - such as GDS, HMRC, Dept of Health and The Dept for Work & Pensions. To date all these companies have hired Studio Solo in either a UX leadership capacity or as a UX consultant to work alongside their existing in-house design & development teams.
James Oliver, Director
Art & English. These two disciplines have been prevalent throughout James's life. From early childhood James was drawing, painting, coming up with ideas, organising, planning and writing stories – often combining both written & visual elements. Nothing has really changed much into adulthood other than a recognition of patterns, best practice and ability to help guide those who have a mess to sort out.
Born in Cambridge, James then moved every few years around the South of England, with a 3 year stint living in NJ, USA when he was 12-15. He returned to the UK to study and then graduated from the University of Reading in 2004, where he gained a Bachelors Honors Degree in Typography & Graphic Communication.
James has now relocated to the North-East of England after 10 years working down south in London. He now lives in County Durham, where he is embracing life with a healthy dash of ham & pease pudding stotties. Outside of work, James is also an artist practicing under the pseudonym William Fawkes.
